Edmonton brings back veteran defensive lineman Daniel Ross
EDMONTON - The Edmonton Elks announced Sunday the signings of Americans Mekhai Johnson (RB), Daniel Ross (DL) and Caleb Tannor (LB) to the practice roster.
Ross started in four games with Edmonton this season, recording six defensive tackles before being released on July 8. The 30-year old Ross missed the entire 2022 season due to injury.
Johnson rejoins the Elks after participating in training camp before being released on May 28. The Dorchester, Mass., suited up in one preseason game with the Elks, registering five carries for 15 yards against the Calgary Stampeders on May 22.
Collegiately, Johnson rushed for 635 yards and scored eight touchdowns in 11 games of NCAA Division II football as a senior at Tusculum University in 2022. Prior to joining Tusculum, he played four seasons at Marist College, totalling 159 carries for 863 yards and eight touchdowns in 33 games.
Tannor played five seasons (2018-2022) at the University of Nebraska, where he played a program-record 56 career games with the Cornhuskers, racking up 125 total tackles, 10 sacks and two forced fumbles. The six-foot-three native of Georgia attended New York Jets rookie camp earlier this year.
The Elks returned to practice on Sunday in preparation for their Week 11 match-up with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Tim Hortons Field on Thursday (5:30 p.m. MT kickoff).
