Canadian suited up for four games with the Elks this season
EDMONTON - The Edmonton Elks have released Canadian Mario Villamizar (FB), the club announced Sunday.
Villamizar dressed for four games with the Elks this season after being signed by the Green and Gold on June 26.
The 28-year-old previously spent three seasons with the B.C. Lions, appearing in 40 games from 2019 to 2022.
A sixth round (51st overall) selection by B.C. in the 2019 CFL Draft, Villamizar attended Wilfrid Laurier University, where as a member of the Golden Hawks he was a Yates Cup champion in 2016 and a Second-Team OUA All-Star in 2018.
Edmonton returns to action on Thursday, when the Elks host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Commonwealth Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. MT.
