Elks busy to kick off the New Year

The Elks were busy to start 2023, re-signing seven veterans, adding eight players through free-agency, and making one release in January. 2022 CFL All-Star Jake Ceresna is returning for another season in Green and Gold, while Lucious Purifoy joins the Elks after an All-Star campaign with the B.C. Lions.


Plot lines

  • February is off to a hot start as the Double E load up on the defensive line signing A.C. Leonard and re-signing Christian Rector.
  • Elks hope cupids arrow finds a match when free agency opens on Feb. 14.
  • Elks secondary locked and loaded with experience. Defensive back Aaron Grymes returning from injury to join recently re-signed Ed Gainey and free agent addition Loucheiz Purifoy in veteran defensive backfield.
  • New Elks free agent signing Jordan Lucas rooting on ex-teammates in Super Bowl LVII. Lucas was a member of the 2019 Kansas City Chiefs, who won Super Bowl LIV and remains close with many former teammates who are part of the Chiefs team that will take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Feb. 12.
