Elks, My Radio 580 sign multi-year Punjabi rights agreement

Every Edmonton home game set to be broadcast live in Punjabi

EDMONTON — The Edmonton Elks are looking to attract new fans this season with another first when it comes to CFL broadcasts.

The Club announced Thursday a multi-year radio rights agreement with My Radio 580, as the pair have partnered on the CFL's first Punjabi broadcast rights agreement.

After making history last season with the first Punjabi broadcast of a Canadian football game, the pair are now teaming up to broadcast every Elks home game, starting May 25 when the Green and Gold host the Saskatchewan Roughriders in preseason action.

The agreement is part of the Elks' ongoing strategy of showcasing their brand and Canadian football to new Canadians.

"As a Club, we continue to look for ways to reach new fans who might not be familiar with the Edmonton Elks, or Canadian football. This is a great chance for us to build a love of football by bringing the game to new fans in their language," said Evan Daum, Vice President of Marketing and Fan Engagement.

"We're thankful My Radio 580 has been so eager to partner with us on engaging the Punjabi community and help showcase how the CFL is a uniquely Canadian experience open to everyone."

The agreement builds on the relationship between the Elks and My Radio 580, who partnered last season on the first Punjabi broadcast of a CFL game when the Green and Gold hosted the B.C. Lions on July 29.

"We're so excited to be able to bring a more global perspective to the CFL. We have seen the growing desire of all newcomers to understand and connect with the Canadian world of sports, and we look forward to bringing more ethnic representation into mainstream sports coverage," said Gursharan Buttar, General Manager of My Radio 580.

Fans will be able to listen live on 580 AM on their radio across Alberta, or online at MyRadio580.com.

Further details on My Radio 580's broadcast team will be released in the coming weeks.
